NIKA is hiring for a Human Resources Generalist out of our HQ office in Rockville, MD! The Human Resources Generalist will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities and will help with important functions such as staffing, training and development, and compensation and benefits

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a Human Resources or Business/Management curriculum.
  • SHRM or PHR certification preferred.

Job Description and Responsibilities

  • The HR generalist will be responsible for creating, updating, and applying HR policies and company guidelines and making sure they adhere to standards and laws initiated by authorities.
  • Main responsibility will be to serve as the admin for HRIS and e-learning systems.
  • Hire in systems, manage pre-employment checks (background, drug, etc.), onboarding paperwork and benefits administration.
  • Prepare paperwork and schedules for a smooth new-hire onboarding process, coordinating with cross-functional departments to deliver an exception first-day experience
  • Handle all administrative tasks for onboarding, new-hire orientations, and exit interviews, including data entry in human resources information systems (HRIS) and audits for accuracy and compliance
  • Benefits – manage enrollments in payroll system, work with brokers throughout the year for changes, and auditing throughout the year.
  • Employee relations – listen to feedback, complaints, and allegations, then strategize how to handle and if it will require an investigation, meeting to discuss, training, coaching, etc.
  • Legal & compliance – create HR SOPs, update labor law posters for all states, work with attorney to update employee handbook and for as needed questions for employment law
  • Policy & Procedures – create and implement new policies/procedures and manage acknowledgment forms in system when needed.
  • Leave – track all leave (FMLA, STD, LTD, maternity, etc.)
  • Send announcements to staff for any company updates, actions needed, etc. and answer/address questions or concerns.
  • Serve as a resource for employees for questions or guidance.
  • Work with our security team to initiate Clearance Access Card paperwork for employees associated with a government contract.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Human Resources experience required.
  • Ability to navigate Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) required.
  • Ability to navigate a payroll processing system required. Paycom is preferred.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and listening skills and the ability to communicate with various levels within the organization
  • Ability to collaborate with peers in a team-oriented structure, and be a true team-player
  • High level of attention to detail and the ability to take initiative and adapt quickly to changing requirements
