NIKA is hiring for a General Maintenance Worker to support a base operations support services contract at USCG Base Kodiak, AK!

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Perform general maintenance and repairs on facilities, equipment, and systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Assist in diagnosing issues and determining the appropriate course of action for repairs.
Conduct routine inspections of buildings, facilities, and equipment to identify maintenance needs.
Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as changing filters, lubricating machinery, and maintaining equipment cleanliness.
Repair and replace defective parts in mechanical systems.
Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
Assist skilled maintenance personnel with more complex repairs and projects as needed.
Operate basic hand and power tools in a safe and efficient manner.
Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely and professional manner.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures in all tasks.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and report issues to the supervisor.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in general maintenance, construction, or a related field is preferred.
Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in various environmental conditions.
Willingness to follow safety protocols and procedures.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid Driver’s License
Ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
Lifting and adjusting heavy objects, contact with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment
May spend long hours in awkward positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain
Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions
May also encounter potential poisons and gases that could cause injury or illness
Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with sewer and water
